Imagine eel soup: a writhing mass of creatures whose ends and beginnings can be mistaken in the human eye, trapped in confined space, their bodies tangled beneath the surface or floating above, half submerged in a hot broth.

Like the visible fragments of the viscous animals you have just imagined, the objects presented in this book are fragments of an ephemeral reality. By carefully observing spaces and parts of the body as they twist, press, open, close, bend and touch, photography and clay have become Federico Clavarino and Tami Izko's means of reinterpreting a series of meaningful connections . The resulting series ultimately tells a story of coexistence, largely built around persistent images left behind by otherwise vanished intersections.

The book version of this work, which has been exhibited on several occasions, intertwines many of its ramifications: views of the installation, images of the studio shared by the artists in Milan, photographs of the sculptures and sculptures made with photographs. The book also documents its birth by presenting images of the wall that was used to work on its sequence, as well as interviews the artists conducted with each other. The book itself, like a bowl full of eel soup, challenges our ability to distinguish things from one another, be they people, works of art, or other forms of life.
