The Horny of Plenty from Jack Scollard is a compilation of images taken in London over the space of 12 months since Jack moved to the city. The zine is intended as a meditation, capturing the ceaseless intensity and boundless beauty of a city that never knows when to stop. Whether it’s sporadic snapshots in club cubicles, tender portraits at the lakes deep in the city’s outskirts or intimate moments during after parties, these vibrant shots testify to a quest for vitality and connection that followed two years of lockdowns.

Scollard’s playful and unrehearsed style of photography is reflected back in the zine’s whimsical graphic design, lead by Lisbon-based designer Graham Dow. Written contributions, including an interview conducted by Shane Morgan, alongside texts by Sean King and Berlin-based artist David Lindert, probe some of the darker themes raised in the images associated with a pursuit of pleasure. This is a bold and unapologetic work that immortalises a period of deep personal change for the author, but also captures the constant hedonistic attitude within London’s queer community.

Jack Scollard (born 1997) is an Irish artist based in London. They graduated from a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art Printmaking with Critical Cultures at the National College of Art and Design in 2021. They are a co-founder of SMUT Press and are currently studying bespoke tailoring in London...SMUT Press is a collective print publishing project founded in early 2022 by Jack Scollard and Jordan Hearns based between Dublin and London. The aim of the press is to spotlight, support and commission queer artists to produce printed matter in order to generate greater recognition and representation of their work. The press aspires to offer a support network for those wishing to create printed matter in an informal, supportive and encouraging environment. Alongside the printed matter series, the press also runs an electronic music mix series online. ‘The Horny of Plenty’ is the fifth project launched by SMUT, and the second by Scollard to be published through the press.

10% of profits from this project will be donated to Terrence Higgins Trust which campaigns about and provides services relating to HIV and sexual health as well as offering support empowerment to those living with HIV.
