The works within the exhibition consider the similarities of symbolism and icon worship found throughout art history and also more contemporary versions found within football fandom and on airbrushed fairground rides. Tapping into the thought that football, a lot like religion or art, can act as a universal language.
The work references everyday observations of both functional and charming marks found on the street, and uses a combination of traditional and non-traditional materials ranging from oil paint and linen to smoke canisters and chalk lines. The use of high quality and accessible materials together questions status and value, democratising art making and elevating things that are often overlooked.
