Pressing Matters Issue 25

Publisher notes:

At the fine age of 94, wallpaper designer Marthe Armitage has plenty of experience and wisdom to share with us. “Art should be looking outside ourselves at real things,” she reflects. She’s still turning her wonderful drawings into repeat patterns and delicate designs – and, somewhat surprisingly, she’s not the only artist here who started off printing their artworks with their feet!

With stories of artists working from small kitchen tables to remote island studios, resourcefulness is a common theme, along with a willingness to try out new techniques, materials and tools to see where it takes us. So, whether your interest lies in printing with the sun or getting to grips with making ‘unreasonable stationery’, I hope you find something here that inspires you and fires you up on your own printmaking journey.
