l'absence examines Rivard's performative wanderings on Quebec's North Shore. In the repetition of passing and fleeing seasons, absence becomes both a spatial and social referent. In the poem serving as a primer for the visual narrative, Rivard reveals in absence his ability to embody a place to invent himself unlimited, since always elsewhere. The photographic series recounts his journey in the cold season, where absence becomes a landmark for the artist: absence, a kingdom which, invisible, defines itself in perpetuity. Comparable to a logbook, the images explore the specificities of the idea of a place and the fact of telling one's story.
