Julian Germain is a pioneer of the contemporary photo-collage book, whereby different types and generations of photograph are combined to make a pluralist genre of photobook. In Soccer Wonderland combines image and text, and brings together his two passions - soccer and photography. It includes not only his own colour photographs but anonymous snapshots, archival sports photographs, football card portraits and newspaper images to build up his personal picture of the sport he loves….This book is a labour of love, a true fan’s book, and is to football what Ed van der Elsken’s Jazz is to its own chosen art form.
