At this time of year, it’s hard not to get into Christmas mode. The festive season, after all, is a time of celebration, but, this year, things feel a bit off. Countless people are being affected by the cost of living crisis, there’s yet another Tory Prime Minister, and we’re also contending with global issues around climate change and social injustice. Not exactly the stuff of festive cheer, eh? That’s why, in this issue of HUNGER, we delve into what it means to go into Survival Mode.

We interview trailblazing Just Stop Oil activists who are making the public take stock of what peaceful protest can really mean today. Next, up-and-coming fashion designers open up about how they’re coping with the unprecedented rise in inflation in ‘Is the Cost of Living Crisis Killing Creativity?’.

But there’s no dearth of cover stars too, who candidly delve into their own anxieties and methods of survival. First up, OG rapper, Wiz Khalifa, speaks about the grounding power of exercise, and how it enables him to stay on top of his game amid the explosion of hip-hop acts. Pop star turned actor, Billie Piper, talks about life in the limelight, her thoughts on turning 40, and why she’s committed to focusing on positivity going forward. Rounding off our cover stars is the inimitable Camila Mendes, who dishes on life after Riverdale, and staying afloat amid the toxicity of social media.

But, we couldn’t release an issue of HUNGER so close to the holidays without some festive cheer. Christmas cover star, Asa Butterfield, of Sex Education fame, will undoubtedly get you in the mood with our ‘tragic work Christmas party’ editorial, which sees the actor in a gaudy North London pub, sipping on beer, and dining on plates of cocktail sausages and 80’s inspired finger foods. Elsewhere, we ask beauty aficionados to choose their desert island skincare products, and we were inspired by celebration season games in our ‘Top Trends’ fashion story, where we break down the season’s key looks — with a wink.

And finally, we have our fashion and beauty programming to feast your eyes on. This time around, we have glitz, glam and gifting inspiration from Chanel, Carolina Herrera, Clé De Peau, Shiseido, Dior and Guerlain.
