"There was a time when the Greeks erected marble temples to honour their Gods, and on the golden altars laid their offerings…

Today, life is simpler! Did man teach the Gods to live like him ; small? Or was it that the Gods lowered their way of life? In any case, from now on, they have to content with small zinc boxes. Decrepit letterboxes scaled to human dimensions. Poised, lop-sided at the road sides with theirdoors often gaping and their legs twisted by hurried motorists…
… And inside? Cheap cardboard icons… Forgotten the flamboyant Byzantine for synthetic trinkets. Evidence of decaying taste? Yes, but also haste ; an urgency to still try to communicate with the Gods?

The Greece, like the one Angelopoulos saw, sweats in the cold, in the rain. This Greece, unveiled here, let’s say it, is terribly painful and pathetic… Helpless calls…
that soon the bulldozers, will silence… still reveberate in a world where is no longer an ear for them." - Françoise Xenakis
