GOD IS TRANS is the debut publication by Indian photographer Jitendra Jerry, tracing the Koovagam Festival in Tamil Nadu through portraiture, documentary and fashion-led image-making.
At the heart of the work is a gathering shaped by ritual, devotion, performance and community, where transgender and third-gender communities come together each year to celebrate, mourn, adorn and remake themselves. Jerry's photographs move between these collective moments and quieter encounters, exploring the ways identity can be performed, shared and understood through the body, clothing, gesture and gaze.
The publication considers the festival not simply as a site of spectacle, but as a space of belonging; one in which the personal and collective continually overlap. Through colour, intimacy and theatricality, GOD IS TRANS reflects on the relationship between visibility and selfhood, and on the ways community can offer a temporary place to belong.
