In the endless expanses of the American West, Louise Mutrel's captivating photographs reveal a world where reality blends with dreams, where every detail is a piece of a giant puzzle that the artist assembles with the delicacy of an archaeologist.
Her goal is not simply to capture landscapes, but to unearth traces, clues hidden in the folds of these lands.
Natural elements take on a new form through her lens; each photograph is a reinvention of the landscape, inspiration from the surrounding nature intertwined with pure invention.
Yet, beyond the natural beauty, there is a palpable strangeness. In these vast expanses, where one would expect to find humans, there are only replicas, creatures strangely familiar yet so distant from us. Aliens and dinosaurs populate these spaces of solitude, perhaps as an attempt to fill a void, to make this territory a little less deserted.
Louise Mutrel plays with scale, sometimes making the immense smaller, reducing mountains to piles of sand, canyons to tiny cracks, places where past and future mingle.
