Exhibition Launch: 'Save The Pieces' by Solomon Charles-Kelly Exhibition

To coincide with Photo North, Village is proud to announce our latest show 'Save The Pieces' by Solomon Charles-Kelly.

Join us from 6pm on Friday 13th March for the launch of Solomon's solo exhibition.

On the 13th November 2023, the people of Nevis buried Mrs Mary Brown. It was her 105th birthday, and she was the oldest person on the island.

With her death, Ernest Theodore Kelly moves one step closer to the top (or bottom) of the list.

He is of the island’s oldest generation; born in 1928, he is 95 years of history embodied. A history highly specific to a population that has never exceeded 13’000.

In his early twenties, Theodore, like many others, answered the call of Empire and travelled to England for a different future.

After working for over 30 years, building friendships and a family, he returned to Nevis, alone, to continue his old life, anew.
Since he’d been gone much had changed, and in the years to come, much more would.

This project looks at Theodore as embedded in a place that is his own, in a reality that he has created and moulded: first he brought Nevis to England, then
he turned around and brought England back to Nevis.
