Issue 2, Together in the Fold, is a celebration of family and community: two foundational pillars of Justsmile.
Justsmile is an independent cultural publication at the cross-section of fine art, fashion, ideas, self-expression, and inclusivity. It is a collaborative space for creatives of all identities that uses luxury fashion as a tool for expressing ideas and dialogues. Created for everyone, Justsmile aims to shine a light on honest examples of inclusivity and diversity, providing a collaborative platform for Black and POC voices to explore their work.
Cover 1 features Adonai Tesfamariam, together with Carmen Amare, in the cover story Stranger than Paradise. Equal parts character study and personal recollection, Yohana Lebasi and Dawit N.M. set out to create images recounting the 1980’s scenes of their parents of Eritrean and Ethiopian descent, respectively, arrival in the diaspora. Adonai wears Comme Des Garçons Homme Plus.
Cover 2 features Andre Walker. For the American creative, his time in fashion has been a marathon, dating back to 1981, from staging his first show in a Brooklyn nightclub, having his own label for a decade, long-term partnerships with Kim Jones and Marc Jacobs, and most-recently collaborating with Virgil Abloh for Off-White. Andre now opens up about what he wants to do next—photographed by Eric Johnson wearing Bottega Veneta, styled by Becky Akinyode, cover story by Dominic Cadogan.
Cover 3 features Vince Staples. “If you ask him what he is, he’s more likely to give you a list of what he’s not: a musician, an early member of Odd Future, or a big household name included. He has no ambition for these things, and though he’s expanded his world many times over, he still finds his creativity close to home.” Photographed by David Alekhuogie wearing Celine, styled by Corey T. Stokes, cover story by JudnickMayard.
