Absent Air is a continuation of work, in dialogue, with Dan Commons’ first book, No Silver Bird. The images, developed with darkroom processes, communicate a range of themes and emotional states aimed to confront the anxieties and elations of contemporary experience. The book presents these moments, now dislocated from original context, as parallel sates to be read and re-experienced by the viewer. Absent Air seeks to elevate ordinary moments beyond conventional photographic practises, whilst providing a sense of catharsis for the artist.
